Children Massaging Children (CMC) - Dp P.E. Jill Morgan (Dip Tch, ND RMT), Eastern Institute of Technology, Hastings, New Zealand 2006
In May 2006 Jill Morgan researched the effects of the Children Massaging Children (CMC) programme on 140 pupils over a 17 week period at Ebbett Park Primary School in Hastings this year. A control school was used in the study. Changes were measured using the Burnett Self Scale. Children Massaging Children (CMC) meets requirements of School Curriculum in the subject of Hauora.

The following findings were made:

  • Improved relationship with their peers
  • Improved ability to do school work
  • Improved relationship with their father
  • Improved physical ability

In order to be able to teach and supervise children for the massage programme, teachers must first attend a CMC workshop. This involves information on how touch deprivation can affect mental capacity then actively learning the massage programme.
